Tuning by feel is one of the most common traps in drag racing—and one of the most misleading. The issue isn’t that feel has no value; it’s that it’s rooted in perception, not measurable performance.

A run can feel:

  • Faster (but actually be slower)
  • Cleaner (but less efficient)
  • Stronger (while losing time early in the pass)

Without data, you’re interpreting sensation—not reality. And in a sport where thousandths of a second matter, that gap is everything. The only way to know what truly happened on a run is through data.

What happens when you tune without data

When you rely on feel alone, you often end up solving the wrong problem, or chasing a problem that doesn’t truly exist. That leads to:

  • Wasted passes (and money!)
  • Inconsistent performance
  • Slower ET over time

If the 60-foot is off, the entire pass is off.
